On May 25th, 2007, Kanye West dropped the official “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” mixtape.
It featured an early snippet of “Stronger”, the summer’s soon to be anthem from Kanye’s highly anticipated “Graduation” album. In addition, the mixtape featured new material from established artists Common and Talib Kweli, as the songs featured here would go on to appear on their upcoming albums, “Finding Forever” and “Eardrum” respectively.
An unknown rapper named Big Sean announced himself to the hip hop world by debuting the catchy “Getcha Some”. The single was served as introduction to new GOOD Music signee.
But my favorite track was the slept on “US Placers” by Kanye, Pharrell and Lupe Fiasco. They dubbed themselves CRS, or Child Rebel Soldier. Rumors began to swirl that a super group was in the making. And while that never materialized, we were still given this beauty of a track.
I hope you enjoy. And if you can find the mixtape, it’s highly worth a listen.
